Chiropractic Family Health Center has been a family-owned and operated facility in El Cajon since 1965.  Dr. Chris Jesperson is a second generation chiropractic doctor. As a full service, bilingual (Spanish) chiropractic family practice, health services are offered to patients in all seasons of life, from newborn infants and children, active teens and young adults to working adults and senior citizens. ABOUT THE DOCTORS

R. CHRISTIAN JESPERSON, D.C.

Dr. Chris Jesperson has practiced as a board certified Doctor of Chiropractic and Diplomate of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners for the past 35 years in the same location in East San Diego County. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian of his graduating class from Pasadena College of Chiropractic in 1982. Dr. Jesperson is a living example of the “Chiropractic Lifestyle” having been raised in a holistic environment by his father, one of the first chiropractors to practice in El Cajon. His postgraduate and continuing education pursuits through the years have covered a wide range of study and training in all facets of the diagnosis and treatment of the nervous, muscular and skeletal systems of the human body. Dr. Jesperson’s overarching philosophy of health recognizes that the body has been endowed with the innate ability to monitor, regulate and heal itself. His efforts, as a doctor of Chiropractic, are only to facilitate the restoration of proper function in order to eliminate pain and establish an overall state of “wellness.” As more and more healthcare consumers seek for conservative, drug-free, non-surgical solutions to their healthcare needs, Dr. Jesperson is confident that his “hands-on” chiropractic techniques combined with physiotherapy, nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices will increasingly be in greater demand. Having served as Team Physician for several local high school football, wrestling and soccer teams, Dr. Jesperson is well versed in treating sports injuries of all types. He is thoroughly knowledgeable in the treatment of industrial injuries, having qualified as a Certified Industrial Disability Examiner and Qualified Medical Examiner for the State of California. A major portion of his practice is dedicated to the treatment of those who have been injured in automobile accidents, where he enjoys a professional working relationship with specialty physicians and attorneys throughout San Diego County. Dr. Jesperson has maintained membership in the California Chiropractic Association and the San Diego County Chiropractic Society throughout the course of his career. He is fluent in Spanish which allows him to better serve the Hispanic community here in San Diego. Much of Dr. Jesperson’s free time has been spent as a volunteer, giving service to his church, Rady Children’s Hospital, St. Vincent de Paul Center and the American Red Cross. He is very pleased to say that he has been married to his wife, Margaret, for forty years and they have six children and twenty-one grandchildren (and counting).


DANIEL HENRIE, D.C.

Dr. Henrie has an undergraduate degree from Utah State University and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic-West. Dr. Henrie utilizes various chiropractic techniques, therapy modalities, and soft tissue techniques to help speed the healing process. As a member of the Chiropractic Family Health Center TEAM, Dr. Henrie is committed to giving his time, talents, and expertise in helping you achieve your goals and getting you back to where you want to be. Having competed in Running, Cycling, and Ballroom, and having danced for Utah Valley State College, Utah Regional Ballet, and The Sweetwater County Performing Arts Guild, Dr. Henrie has the experience and expertise to help in your recovery process.

As a graduate of Palmer West and a member of the Sports Council, Dr. Henrie has worked with world class athletes at facilities like San Jose Ballet, Sea Otter Classic and is currently the treating chiropractor for City Ballet of San Diego. NATHAN A. MILLER, M.D.

Nathan A. Miller, M.D. is a pioneer in the field of pain medicine with over a decade of experience treating patients in the North County San Diego area. Dr. Nathan Miller is a well-respected, compassionate physician who strives to help his patients regain their lives. He is Chief of Pain Medicine at Scripps Memorial Hospital, Encinitas and is double-board certified in Anesthesiology and Interventional Pain Medicine.

Dr. Miller completed his pain fellowship at the prestigious University of Virginia pain program. He is a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and a Qualified Medical Examiner in the State of California.

Dr. Miller is at the forefront in the treatment and management of a wide variety of acute and chronic pain disorders. He is a strong proponent of a multi-disciplinary approach in pain management to improve outcome and increase quality of life. With his knowledge and the use of advanced medicine, he has been able to help many patients who had little hope of a functional life. Dr. Miller specializes in difficult cases where other pain doctors have given up. He continues to stay current in the field of pain management and studies peer-review medical journals and literature. ABOUT THE DOCTOR

Dr. Amir Bahreman, MD, is a quadruple board-certified neurologist, and is an American Diplomat in Neurology and Psychiatry, Brain Injury Medicine, Clinical Neurophysiology and Vascular Neurology by APBN.

Dr. Bahreman trained in neurology at the Albert Einstein University in New York in 2000. During his residency at Montefiore Hospital he developed additional expertise in headache disorders, stroke and neuromuscular diseases. Because of the unique location of Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx New York, he was exposed to a variety of neurological pathologies including traumatic brain injury. During his residency he treated patients with traumatic brain injury, spine injury and neuromuscular disorders. In his last year of residency, he had the privilege of working directly with Dr. Richard Lipton and Dr. Lawrence Newman, world renowned headache experts, which gave him the knowledge necessary to diagnose and manage post traumatic headache disorders and migraines associated with traumatic brain injury.

Following residency, Dr. Bahreman, entered a fellowship program at the University Of Chicago, where he became board certified in Clinical Neurophysiology in 2007 and Vascular Neurology (stroke) in 2008. During his fellowship training at University of Chicago he became skilled in electrodiagnostics including electroencephalography, electromyography, and nerve conduction studies.

Upon completing his fellowship, Dr. Bahreman joined a local private neurology group and in 2008, he moved to San Diego when he started his own solo practice. He became affiliate with Sharp Health System where he presently provide services as Stroke specialist at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. In his private practice, he treats patients with traumatic brain injury, post traumatic headache disorders, migraines, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), neuralgias, seizures, musculoskeletal diseases, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, spinal cord injuries, traumatic spinal disease and peripheral nerve injuries.
Since then, he has received extra training and become certified in a variety of areas including VNG (video nystagmography), posturography, Botox and spasticity, and antiaging medicine. He is a member of A4M (American Academy of Anti-Aging medicine). In December 2017, he passed the Stem Cell board exam sponsored by Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

Currently, Dr. Bahreman’s primary interest is in medical legal neurology with a special focus on traumatic brain injury (TBI). He provides services as a treating physician and expert witness in neurology for patients with brain or spinal injuries. His expertise has been used by plaintiff and defense attorneys in a variety of neurological cases including TBI, CRPS and peripheral nerve injuries. In 2017, he testified in a class action lawsuit against Bristol Myers and their drug Plavix. He currently performs and offers a variety of neurological studies that are commonly used in medical legal cases including:

Harish Hosalkar, M.D., FACS, FAAOS

Dr. Harish Hosalkar is a Board Certified orthopaedic surgeon in both the United States and India, and is licensed to practice medicine in the states of California, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Washington State, Florida, and in United Kingdom and India. He brings expertise in hip joint preservation and arthritis prevention surgery that has previously been unavailable in this entire region. He is an accomplished Orthopedic Surgeon who is also trained in traumatology and complex fracture care, hip and pelvis reconstruction, limb-lengthening and deformity correction, children’s orthopedic problems, tumor surgery, and neuro-muscular orthopedic surgery including management of traumatic brain injury, stroke and spasticity.

Dr. Hosalkar is currently the director of Center for Hip Preservation and Children’s Orthopedics, Inc in San Diego and also the founder and director of the Hosalkar Institute for Joint Preservation and Injury care. He is one of the founding members of the Center for Hip Preservation at Tri-City Medical Center and the Deformity Correction and Amputation Prevention Center. He is also part of the Neuro-restoration team at Scripps Encinitas hospital and is on faculty at AO North America for Trauma. Dr. Hosalkar is affiliated with the Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego & Chula Vista, Scripps Encinitas, Sharp Grossmont Hospital, Tri-City Medical Center, and Paradise Valley Hospital. He is also affiliated with several surgery centers in central and north San Diego.

Dr. Hosalkar has published extensively during his career and has an extensive list of peer reviewed publications, chapters, podium presentations, posters, instructional course lectures, specialty day meetings, and visiting professorships to his credit.

With almost 24 years of experience he has encountered numerous different clinical problems and has helped to impart that knowledge and experience by frequently lecturing and teaching medical students, residents, and practicing physicians in both the art and science of orthopedics and musculoskeletal health and rehabilitation. He has participated in administrative and leadership positions in health care at both the regional, national and international level.

While there, Matt trained under many of the finest health practitioners in his field, gaining a deeper understanding and knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In adjunct to his studies at Pacific College, Matt continued his education and clinical expertise at Chengdu Traditional Medical Hospital in Chengdu, China.

Mr. Alavi has obtained specialized training in orthopedics, neurology, endocrinology, immune disorders, gastrointestinal dysfunction and pain diseases. He has successfully treated numerous sports related injuries of collegiate athletes and coaches, at the RIMAC center at the University of California San Diego. Here, Matt utilized his background in sports medicine and nutrition to provide sports enhancement therapy.

As a lecturer and educator on many areas of health and wellness, Matt continues to spread the awareness and application of integrative medicine to the public as well as medical professionals. Brett Rabin is a California Licensed Acupuncturist specializing in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and the mitigation of pain associated with acute and chronic injuries. He has been the Acupuncturist for the San Diego Padres since the 2015 season and currently treats professional baseball players on the active rosters of MLB. He utilizes Sports Medicine Acupuncture alongside MLB Athletic Trainers, Training Staff, Team Doctors, Sports Physical Therapists, and Chiropractors in the on-going evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of professional baseball players on the San Diego Padres active roster.

In his private practice, Brett remains committed to providing the utmost in quality patient care. He firmly believes in fostering open communication with each and every one of his patients. Each patient receives a personalized treatment plan designed to fit his or her health needs. Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping, postural and movement analysis, nutritional consulting, stretching, and home-based exercises are just some of the medical modalities that may be included in the treatment plan.

Traditional Chinese Medicine’s aim at prevention, as well as reverence to-wards the body’s ability to heal itself, led Dana to continue her studies at one of the top medical acupuncture colleges, Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Renowned for integrating the ancient system of medicine with current medical practices she had the opportunity to work at hospitals and clinics throughout the county to deepen her knowledge and practical application.

Her passion for helping others combined with her desire to obtain the most current research and treatment methods, provides her patients with the highest level of care. She believes in empowering others to play a role in their healing process by providing them with an increased understanding and awareness of causative factors. An educator in her field, it is her mission to work with both the individual and the community to make this powerful system of medicine a more utilized and accessible method of health care.

Brandy Brown, L.Ac

Dr. Brandy Brown is a California Licensed Acupuncturist. She received her Doctorate from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine where her love for Chinese Medicine flourished. She received her Bachelor’s in Kinesiology from San Diego State University. While receiving her doctorate, she expanded her knowledge and love for orthopedics as well as found a passion for internal medicine. With the integration of Western and Eastern medicine, she brings a unique perspective to all of her patients that is coupled with a passion to facilitate the best care possible for every individual.

As an athlete, she has a passion for sports medicine and helping athletes of all levels return back to health. In addition to her extensive experience with sports medicine, she has also treated a variety of diseases in the PCOM clinic as well as at their off-sites. She worked closely with the veteran population, addressing a variety of health care concerns including chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, and insomnia. Her passion for helping people combined with her desire to bring the best level of care to her patients has always been at the forefront of her education.

Brandy believes in customizing treatments for individuals and incorporating a variety of disciplines into her acupuncture and manual therapies, including herbal medicine, lifestyle, diet, and exercise recommendations. In addition to her special interests in orthopedic, sports medicine, and facial rejuvenation, she has had success in treating chronic pain, migraines, PTSD, anxiety, insomnia, women’s health, and infertility.

Dr. Ritvik Mehta received his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He then went on to Harvard Medical School where he completed his internship in General Surgery and residency in Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery. While at Harvard, he developed his interest in treating patients with facial paralysis. Recognizing the profound impact that facial paralysis has on the lives of those affected, Dr. Mehta chose to pursue advanced training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery / Facial Nerve Disorders during his fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary / Harvard Medical School. He then went on to complete a second fellowship in Otology / Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine.

He has co-authored numerous publications and was the recipient of the American Neurotology Society Trainee Award for his middle-ear research. Tania Faruque, M.D.

Tania Faruque, MD, is the Medical Director of Palomar Spine & Pain. She is a double board-certified interventional pain management specialist and anesthesiologist.

Dr. Faruque has extensive training and experience using a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of chronic pain. Her journey into pain medicine started with residency training at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, where she worked with patients in the Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program. The highly recognized multidisciplinary Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program treats the most complex chronic pain patients using a biopsychosocial framework. Dr. Faruque learned how to treat patients effectively to help recover their function and avoid invasive treatments.

Dr. Faruque broke barriers by becoming the first female pain management fellow at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Being one of the few female pain physicians in San Diego county, she is a powerful advocate for women’s health.

Dr. Faruque holds the distinction of being appointed physician leader of a comprehensive pain program. The program treated chronic pain patients with interventional management, physical therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and biofeedback/relaxation training. Other innovative treatments used were assertiveness training, expressive writing, mindfulness, and relapse prevention.

Dr. Faruque believes her most important role is being a patient’s advocate. Through assessment and careful diagnoses, she provides the physical, emotional, and social interventions needed to achieve optimum total health. Dr. Faruque combines a multimodal treatment plan using evidence-based treatments, rehabilitative approaches, and interventional pain procedures including spinal injections, joint injections, neuromodulation therapies, and regenerative medicine procedures.

Dr. Faruque grew up in the Midwest. She completed her training in Los Angeles and decided to settle down in Southern California after meeting her husband. Her hobbies include cross country road trips, treasure hunting, playing violin, fiction writing, and sports like tennis and boxing.
Dr. Faruque’s philosophy is “I tailor my approach to each patient individually and we can come up with a plan together on how best to treat the mind and body.”

Wayne M. Whalen, D.C., Q.M.E., D.A.C.A.N.

PRACTICE SPECIALTIES

Ours is a family practice and provides general chiropractic care for conditions such as back and neck pain, headaches, and other musculoskeletal conditions. As a recognized authority in workers’ compensation, Dr. Whalen treats many injured workers, as well as automobile and other accident victims. We use a variety of gentle techniques as well as physiotherapy, and works with a variety of other providers.

Dr. Whalen graduated with a BS in Nursing from SDSU in 1978, and served as an ER and Life Flight helicopter nurse for 10 years before completing his DC degree at Palmer West Chiropractic College in 1986. Since then he has had extensive training in rehabilitation and is Board Certified in Chiropractic Neurology.

He has served his profession as president of the San Diego County Chiropractic Society and was president of the California Chiropractic Association for 1999-2000. He remains active on numerous state and national association boards, and is Past Chairman of CCGPP, the national chiropractic organization involved in translating research into evidence based care. Dr. Whalen is recognized as a chiropractic authority on workers’ compensation and writes and lectures extensively throughout the state. He is a state appointed Qualified Medical Evaluator, a Fellow of the Academy of Forensic and Industrial Chiropractic Consultants, a Fellow of the Internation Academy of Chiropractic Neuroloy and a Fellow of the International College of Chiropractors. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including ‘Student of the Year,’ ‘New Doctor of the Year,’ and ‘Doctor of the Year.’
