Harish Hosalkar, M.D., FACS, FAAOS

Dr. Harish Hosalkar is a Board Certified orthopaedic surgeon in both the United States and India, and is licensed to practice medicine in the states of California, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Washington State, Florida, and in United Kingdom and India. He brings expertise in hip joint preservation and arthritis prevention surgery that has previously been unavailable in this entire region. He is an accomplished Orthopedic Surgeon who is also trained in traumatology and complex fracture care, hip and pelvis reconstruction, limb-lengthening and deformity correction, children’s orthopedic problems, tumor surgery, and neuro-muscular orthopedic surgery including management of traumatic brain injury, stroke and spasticity.
Dr. Hosalkar is currently the director of Center for Hip Preservation and Children’s Orthopedics, Inc in San Diego and also the founder and director of the Hosalkar Institute for Joint Preservation and Injury care. He is one of the founding members of the Center for Hip Preservation at Tri-City Medical Center and the Deformity Correction and Amputation Prevention Center. He is also part of the Neuro-restoration team at Scripps Encinitas hospital and is on faculty at AO North America for Trauma. Rakhesh Guttikonda, D.O.

Rakhesh Guttikonda, DO earned his degree from Kansas City University School of Medicine and Biosciences. He then completed his residency in general surgery, and fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Saint Barnabas Hospital in New York City. In the course of his training Dr. Guttikonda became a gifted hand surgeon. After years of studying natural medicine through his Osteopathic training, Dr. Guttikonda has learned to combine this expertise with his plastic and reconstructive training to provide the best and most innovative care to his patients.
“Giving Back” is also a focus for Dr. Guttikonda. It began in Medical school when he took part in a program providing free medical screening care to inner city children. He has also worked with DOCARE providing needed healthcare to primitive and isolated populations in the remote areas of Latin America. Robert Afra, M.D.
Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr. Robert Afra is a San Diego-based orthopedic surgeon who is nationally renowned in sports medicine with expertise in treating shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle conditions. As the former Chief of Sports Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Afra has published extensively in professional journals and books and presented at conferences around the world, where he is considered a pioneer in the study of shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle injuries in athletes and active adults. Dr. Afra is also a specialist in cartilage issues and pain in knee cap disorders; he was named Co-Director of the International Patellofemoral Study Group Conference in San Diego in July 2011. As a sports medicine physician, he has managed and treated complex joint injuries and successfully guided patients back to peak performance levels.
Dr. Afra takes a customized approach to treat each of his patients. He provides comprehensive care to injured athletes, from sprain rehabilitation and muscle and ligament tear repairs to care for broken bones. He regularly cares for children and active adults with injuries to the upper extremities (shoulders, elbows, and wrists) and lower extremities (hips, knees, and ankles). His joint replacement practice consists of shoulder replacement, hip replacement, and knee replacement surgery, including minimally invasive surgery techniques and traditional joint replacement surgery when necessary.
Dr. Afra completed his fellowship training in sports medicine at Boston University, where he treated a variety of elite college athletes in ice hockey, soccer, basketball, field hockey and lacrosse. Dr. Afra was a researcher at University of Hawaii’s Queen Emme Medical Center in the field of muscle and nerve physiology, and was a surgical fellow at the world-renowned Barnard O’Brien Microsurgical Institute in Melbourne, Australia. He has studied microsurgical techniques and the art of plastic surgery. Dr. Afra studied medicine at UCLA, where he also completed his surgery internship. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Afra worked at the Salk Institute on an NIH research stipend. In 2010, Dr. Robert Afra was selected by the Arthroscopy Association of North America, a premiere sports medicine society, as one of three surgeons to lecture to university faculty in the United States and Canada.

Dr. Kent W. Pollock II has been practicing in North County since 2003. He is a second generation chiropractor and has been around chiropractic his entire life. Dr. Pollock has also been a chiropractic patient, and has benefited, and seen countless positive life changing experiences in others through natural chiropractic care.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College Los Angeles. After college, he moved his family to Carlsbad in 2003 and opened his practice in Encinitas. Dr. Joshua Pal graduated Cum Laude and subsequently attended medical school with training at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. After recovering from spine surgery, he went on to complete his internship in Riverside. In 2008, Dr. Pal completed the requirements for licensure in medical acupuncture at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Pal subsequently completed his residency in anesthesiology at Harvard Medical School and attended fellowship training at Stanford University. He has been on the Medical Staff at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) since 2012 as an Affiliate and Attending. He is a Diplomate with double board-certification in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, with a focus on image-guided minimally invasive procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of pain.
Since entering practice more than 10 years ago, Dr. Pal has served as a Medical Director for outpatient ambulatory surgery centers and consulted in the development of pain therapeutics. He has given multiple scientific presentations on spinal cord stimulation, Stem Cell therapy, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections, and other Regenerative Medicine techniques, and was recently invited to present to the County of San Diego on these topics. Dr. Pal has won awards for his research in neurology and pain medicine, has published in scientific journals on non-opiate treatments of pain, and authored a textbook chapter on the advanced treatment of headaches.

Dr. Chris Jesperson has practiced as a board certified Doctor of Chiropractic and Diplomate of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners for the past 35 years in the same location in East San Diego County. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian of his graduating class from Pasadena College of Chiropractic in 1982. Dr. Jesperson is a living example of the “Chiropractic Lifestyle” having been raised in a holistic environment by his father, one of the first chiropractors to practice in El Cajon. NATHAN A. MILLER, M.D.
Nathan A. Miller, M.D. is a pioneer in the field of pain medicine with over a decade of experience treating patients in the North County San Diego area. Dr. Nathan Miller is a well-respected, compassionate physician who strives to help his patients regain their lives. He is Chief of Pain Medicine at Scripps Memorial Hospital, Encinitas and is double-board certified in Anesthesiology and Interventional Pain Medicine.
Dr. Miller completed his pain fellowship at the prestigious University of Virginia pain program. He is a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and a Qualified Medical Examiner in the State of California.

Dr. Amir Bahreman, MD, is a quadruple board-certified neurologist, and is an American Diplomat in Neurology and Psychiatry, Brain Injury Medicine, Clinical Neurophysiology and Vascular Neurology by APBN.
Dr. Bahreman trained in neurology at the Albert Einstein University in New York in 2000. During his residency at Montefiore Hospital he developed additional expertise in headache disorders, stroke and neuromuscular diseases. Because of the unique location of Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx New York, he was exposed to a variety of neurological pathologies including traumatic brain injury. During his residency he treated patients with traumatic brain injury, spine injury and neuromuscular disorders. In his last year of residency, he had the privilege of working directly with Dr. Richard Lipton and Dr. Lawrence Newman, world renowned headache experts, which gave him the knowledge necessary to diagnose and manage post traumatic headache disorders and migraines associated with traumatic brain injury.
Following residency, Dr. Bahreman, entered a fellowship program at the University Of Chicago, where he became board certified in Clinical Neurophysiology in 2007 and Vascular Neurology (stroke) in 2008. During his fellowship training at University of Chicago he became skilled in electrodiagnostics including electroencephalography, electromyography, and nerve conduction studies.
Upon completing his fellowship, Dr. Bahreman joined a local private neurology group and in 2008, he moved to San Diego when he started his own solo practice. Originally from Chicago, IL, Matt moved to San Diego to leave the winters behind while he broadened his studies of Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Mr. Alavi graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, one of the largest Acupuncture Medical Colleges in the United States. While there, Matt trained under many of the finest health practitioners in his field, gaining a deeper understanding and knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In adjunct to his studies at Pacific College, Matt continued his education and clinical expertise at Chengdu Traditional Medical Hospital in Chengdu, China.
Mr. Alavi has obtained specialized training in orthopedics, neurology, endocrinology, immune disorders, gastrointestinal dysfunction and pain diseases. He has successfully treated numerous sports related injuries of collegiate athletes and coaches, at the RIMAC center at the University of California San Diego. Brett Rabin is a California Licensed Acupuncturist specializing in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and the mitigation of pain associated with acute and chronic injuries. He has been the Acupuncturist for the San Diego Padres since the 2015 season and currently treats professional baseball players on the active rosters of MLB. He utilizes Sports Medicine Acupuncture alongside MLB Athletic Trainers, Training Staff, Team Doctors, Sports Physical Therapists, and Chiropractors in the on-going evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of professional baseball players on the San Diego Padres active roster.

Dana’s interest in Chinese medicine was born out of a love for the curative power of diet as well as an awareness of lifestyle factors in the creation of disease. She participated in medical research during her undergraduate studies to gain a better understanding of the disease process, and the role of both social and psychological factors. Traditional Chinese Medicine’s aim at prevention, as well as reverence to-wards the body’s ability to heal itself, led Dana to continue her studies at one of the top medical acupuncture colleges, Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Renowned for integrating the ancient system of medicine with current medical practices she had the opportunity to work at hospitals and clinics throughout the county to deepen her knowledge and practical application.
Her passion for helping others combined with her desire to obtain the most current research and treatment methods, provides her patients with the highest level of care. She believes in empowering others to play a role in their healing process by providing them with an increased understanding and awareness of causative factors. An educator in her field, it is her mission to work with both the individual and the community to make this powerful system of medicine a more utilized and accessible method of health care.
